PRECONCEITO VENCIDO

Le Préjugé vaincu  (1746)

This show is primarily an actor's exercise. … Marivaux was, in the theater, precursor of the French Revolution. He defended the emancipation of women, the right to vote, universal suffrage, visualized free union, sexual equality… but unlike his contemporary Rousseau, fifty years earlier, he believed that man is born evil, but that society makes him worse. . This is what one can draw from Overdue Prejudice: Social and economic interests combine with those of the heart to such an extent that they seem to be naturally linked. An attempt for the happy alliance of the (bankrupt) aristocracy with the (moneyed) bourgeoisie, in the pursuit of political power, 'organized' and witnessed here by the cunning of the servants.
