And it is in the name of the great sixteenth-century playwright that we present the various ways in which his tongue would collude - from which serious truth sometimes came out - treats the "Jew" in his plays . We could have chosen another of any of the many so well treated by him. We prefer this precisely because in these pages there is much of the man - Gil Vicente and they can help us to get to know him better.
