Man-woman relationships, love / hate, dominator / dominate are analyzed and dissected. Girl Julia, reflects Strindberg's antagonistic positions: on the one hand she sympathizes with John, in his contempt for the decadent aristocracy, on the other hand he sympathizes with Julia, in her contempt for the masses and the most disadvantaged classes, whom she sees as coarse and opportunistic. These positions will develop in two main lines: the struggle of the sexes and the class struggle.
