ETA GENERAL ASSEMBLY - OCT 26
Within the scope of Maltepe’s Theatre Festival, on October 1st and 2nd, took place
the General Assembly of ETA – Eurasia Theatre Association.

On the first day, Thursday, the Presidential Handover Ceremony took place: Rui
Madeira, director of CTB, succeeded Oleksandr Kniga and is now the current president.
Following the meeting to set the agenda, the day concluded with the festival’s official
opening ceremony, followed by a concert.

On the second day, Friday, the participants went on a boat trip along the Bosphorus,
with the intent of having bilateral meetings aimed at promoting cultural exchange. Later in
the day, moderated by Kubilay Erdelikara, Tamer Levent, Erkan Bektas, Rui Madeira,
Derman Atik and Nazif Uslu discussed the ‘power without borders’ that is theatre. The day’s
proceedings concluded with the official play of the Maltepe Festival.

Following the General Assembly of the Eurasia Theatre Association, the works
proceeded in Turkey with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between ETA and
the Uzbekistan Theatre Workers’ Union, with the parties being represented by Rui Madeira
and Usman Eratov, respectively.

Moreover, on behalf of CTB, its director, Rui Madeira, met
with Vaso Chigogidze, director of the Ozurgetti National Theatre in Georgia, to discuss the
new co-production between Companhia de Teatro de Braga and said theatre. The project is
due to take place in 2027 and will be directed by Sílvia Brito.
